[citation][nom]husker[/nom]The problem is that people still rely on Cable/Satellite companies for internet service to make things like Google TV possible. If Comcast sees enough people ditch T.V. based services then they will just compensate with ISP rate hikes. In fact more and more "secondary" services are going to rely on your ISP, and the ISP can just offer you the same service at a discount. For example, Comcast and Verizon both offer a VOIP phone service like Vonage pioneered. They will do the same with Google/Apple T.V.[/citation]
Bro I get it. I work for a major Telecom carrier and Google is our worst nightmare. They make billions on our backs and we build a network to support them with no additional revinue to us. We are also trying to build iptv but products like this nearly negate all profits from that investment and google has more buying power for content than and other carrier in the nation. Many, many companies offer raw IP. This will even the playing field and force the big cable and satellite companies prices down. All anyone will need with this product is 20M DSL or cable service. Content is king. Once Google can provide it next to free like they do everything else, it turns the major carriers it pipe providers. I predict in less than 10 years Google will buy a major carrier and give away TV and internet service. We can't compete with free and we don't have the advertising revenue model Google has. There are no antitrust laws for taking over the world by giving away free service. In the end, Google and the consumer will win. Voice service is now free, ask anyone who works for a Telecom carrier. Video and music content will be free next.
