Question iPad 2 freezes during downloads of any apps or music

I've tried different types of apps and music and it goes to a rectangle with a progress circle going endlessly in the middle until I restart the thing. They say they're compatible from version 9.3 and above.

Did you make sure you have enough room to install the programs? iPad 2 is not compatible with a lot of programs now, are you installing stuff from the Apple store?

Yes, I'm trying to use the App Store that's on the device. I'm also using the music and the books apps that are on the device. I've managed to download a sample book but the full book just freezes.

I am checking to see if they are supposed to be compatible with this system version.
