Somebody here must realize Apple's strategy here. It's good business to do what apple is doing. Instead of investing millions into a new phone every year, they play it by the carrier contracts. Since users are generally locked in a two year contract, they just do a minor refresh after a year. That minor refresh usually brings the hardware up to specs with latest phones to lure in new buyers and extreme Apple geeks, and then they release the new phone for all the people who have an expiring contract the following year. Think about it, all those iPhone 4 users paid $200 for their phone, who would pay $200 for a phone for 1 year? Only those who can afford it, and most people can't. It's just good business to not invest into so much too soon. They maximize the potential of each design to justify the millions spent on researching and developing the product.

Guys/ Gals, besides Siri on the iPhone 4S will all the games on the AppStore work on the iPhone 4? I remember Infinitely Blade initially was a iPhone 4 exclusive and later the 3GS (it's choppy but enjoyable). My Point is that I do not see the benefit of buying the 4S if all the games are going to run great on the 4, kind of like PC titles designed to run on Consoles or vise versa. I'm up for an upgrade, but I'm wondering if it would be better to keep the upgrade for the iPhone 5 (or an Android) and buy a iPhone 4. Also, could a jail-broken iPhone 4 run Siri?

[citation][nom]joseph22[/nom]pretty amazed that ppl here especially andriod fans dont know its not a hardware that make the phone. but its the os.IOS5 was release in june, that is where all the hype is. 4S is just to show you the hardware for it to go with. wake up, dont be so ignorant.[/citation]
And the OS on iPhone is just VERY VERY boring and uninteresting. Its remained more or less the same since the original iPhone was released 6 years ago, just with a couple of small tweaks and added go-slowness to make you upgrade to the new pricier model when it comes out and your old phone is essentially bricked by a badly optimized iOS (try running iOS 4 on anything below a 3GS).

[citation]I see no compelling reason for a 4 owner to upgrade to this; I'll wait for the 5.[/citation]
The compelling reason for many people is because it's an APPLE PRODUCT. Newer = must have right now at any price. I know several people who have owned every version of iPhone and will likely camp out next week for one of these.

You've just described a co-worker of mine. There needs be some kind of fast-working antidote.

Chipping in my specialized knowledge from Japan: The phone has received lukewarm reception over there. The biggest news is that the single carrier monopoly is broken, not the phone itself.

Meanwhile, Android smartphones are picking up steam even in Japan with Sharp launching a 720p 4.3" display Android 2.4 smartphone in January next year with 1.5GHz dual-core.

[citation][nom]del35[/nom]I have the Samsung Galaxy S2, and to see me with an iPhone, I would have to be given money. The iPhone 4S is for moooooooorons way behind the curve.[/citation]

The iPhone 4s is way, way faster than the Samsung Galaxy S2, in terms of CPU/GPU. It's also no more expensive, has a better camera, and more apps. Plus iCloud and proven track record of reliability. It's a no brainer really. It's also smaller in your pocket for people who don't want a brick.

Wheras 3 year old Android phones receive excellent upgrade support.

Plus of course it's optional.

The compelling reason for many people not to buy is because it's an APPLE PRODUCT. Apple = refuse to consider at any price. I know several people who have refused to consider every version of iPhone and will likely spend their days hating on a technology company on online forums.

You haters are so much more fanatic than people who buy based on reviews (for reliablity and use), how easy a phone is to use, how many apps there are - you know, logical reasons. For example, the iPhone 4s costs the same as a Samsung Galaxy S2 but has a WAY faster GPU/CPU, better camera, more apps, better battery life, smaller form factor - but you still find ways to slate it.

You start out with the premise that anything Apple is bad and work from there. That is fanatic.

In terms of GPU yes the 4S is faster, but the Galaxy actually has the faster CPU, as for apps, well copies and clones of the same app hundreds of times does not mean it has more apps. Me personally I am waiting on the Nexus Prime, since I prefer Android and this will be the best phone out when it is released.

Wonder if you'll be calling it a brick when an Iphone releases with a 4"+ screen? For some people the big screen is a plus. After owning a Galaxy S2 I can safely say I will never settle for a smaller screen now. I know people who have an Iphone and want Apple to make a bigger screen model.

If the iPhone 4s ran Android 1.0 and was may by HTC/Motorolo/Samsung instead of Apple the android fans would be loving it, talking about how great it was. I'm no huge Apple fan, rather neutral, but its funny to see the fanatics in action.
