Now I can't get updates for iPhone 5 is there an antivirus that would keep my phone going a bit longer

Why would you need an antivirus to keep your phone going? I think there is something missing here, are you having issues with your phones? Or are you just worried if there are no more patches done for your phone?

Yes the latter , no more updates or patches so my phone is running very slow also.
Looks like it's time for a new phone ..... this is what I dislike a perfectly good phone that I don't want to just throw away, that's just consumerism.... is there anything I can do to keep it going? And prevent bugs?

For it running slow, you can try a factory reset on it to clear everything out and set it up like it was new. For a 5, the newer iOS will make it run slower.

You can't do anything about bugs or making it run faster, it depends on the iOS which is done by Apple.
