What a spoiled country we live in that we can buy new devices and destroy them immediately for the sake of a blog post.

Drop-tests make sense as part of a full evaluation of smartphones, because consumers deserve to know how durable a phone is likely to be, before a purchase is made, especially since dropping a phone is a common occurrence. However, just today I saw an article featured on another tech site describing how well the $1,000 flagship phones from Apple and Samsung fared against spinning blades in a blender -- now THAT is just gratuitous idiocy.
