Is a GTX 970 REQUIRED for the Oculus to even allow you to play games?

I am thinking about getting an Oculus Rift but I am not sure if it requires a GTX 970 to not make them look bad if your game is slow, or if it is just a recommendation. I have a GTX 760 and it runs most games very well. I get 90+ frames on COD IW, WW2 Beta, R6 Siege, BF1, and other titles. Any help here?

Thanks!

No. The minimum requirement is not a GTX 970 anyway. You can see the requirements here:

Basically a GTX 960 or GTX 1050 Ti or RX 470 is now enough.

The GTX 760 is still not quite enough, and worse is that because it's old it doesn't have support for ASW. That's the software feature that lets cards like the GTX 960 run the Rift decently.

You will still be able to launch VR content with your GTX 760, but performance will be quite poor in most content. You could try selling your 760 and picking up a used 960 maybe? That should soften the financial blow.

it wont stop you if you have a lower end gpu but your frames would be terrible. ( depending on the game ).
i used to use sli 970s and they were ok ish for vr. no sli though :( but from the performance i saw you should not attempt to run vr without anything less than a 970/r9 290. and if your spending £400 on a headset you might want to invest the same or similar into a gpu to run it.

or dont get vr until you get a gpu which can run games today and far in the future. PC first peripherals later.
if i knew how hard vr was to run i would have waited until i got a new gpu first.
the idea of running a £400 headset on a sub £200 gpu is pointless.
