i am looking for a laptop which will last 3-6 years and i am not sure about acer i was thinking of lenovo y400 any suggestion. and yes i would like to game on this but also be able to write papers on this laptop. i would like the price to be lower than $1000.
is acer timeline ultra m3 a reliable laptop

Dell Inspiron 1545, updated to Core 2 Duo Laptop (it's nice to be able to upgrade the processor and not have it fused to the motherboard), 4 GB RAM, Windows 8, 9-cell battery vs. the standard 6-cell., 500 GB hard drive. I've had it for about 3 years, but it's still going strong and the upgrades I think make it competitive. Only thing is the graphics card isn't conducive to great gaming.
