Is AMD or Intel better for 3d rendering

I am going into computer aided aeronautical engineering and need to buy a new laptop for college. I was wondering whether AMD or Intel would be better when choosing a laptop for this purpose. I would also like to play online games on it if possible. I know that some of the programs the school uses are multi-threaded and others are not, and they are very demanding on the processor and memory. Other than that I don't know very much. Any help would be appreciated.

It depends on the specs of both laptops,have you considered any specific models ?
