Is it an IDE or SATA hard drive for the basic Acer aspire laptop

My laptop is 4 years old and I just broke the screen and want to put my harddrive into another laptop but need to know if it will fit before i buy.

No one can really say if it will or won't without knowing what computer you are taking it out of and what computer you want to put it into. I would suggest though, unless it is a massive drive or very new itself, that you really consider it as a second drive rather than the main one.

At 4 yrs old, it's seriously doubtful its IDE drive unless it's a really old model that you got really cheap. You should be able to Google either the full laptop manual or components by model number.

It should be an SATA 2.5" Laptop hard drive. Google the model number to check.

If you buy another laptop, why not have this disk as an external usb connected drive for backups.

Do you really need to have it inside your new laptop.

Also bear in mind that 4 years is approaching the safe working life of a disk.
