So I have a small problem. I have a much more powerful PC (in my sig) than my brother and he needs to use mine to do music production/editing (he uses Reaper). However, I'm wondering if when he's using the computer he can connect the hdmi output from my pc into the laptops hdmi port and display the video from my pc on his laptops monitor.

Nope. Unless you have an Alienware laptop which have HDMI inputs. There may be a few other gaming laptops with a HDMI input port, but this is an extremely rare feature.

So the HDMI port on the laptop is only an output? When I tried connecting my computer into his laptop's HDMI port it didn't seem to do anything. Is there any way to tell besides just testing it?
