If the difference is just a slight sound difference, then couldn't you just EQ the A40's that you already have? I'm not sure the extra cost of the A50's would be worth it.

If you can afford it, I always recommend Sennheiser headsets. They are probably the best sounding headsets that you'll be able to find. You can get even better sound quality if you get high-end headphones instead.
Why do you not like that it is wireless?
As far as I know, you could solve it by attaching a piece of coloured string to the PC and the headset, and it would be "wired"...
You dont always have to get a headset, instead like ttimberlak443 said, you can get a high end headphone and a good mic like the Blue Snowball Ice which is a good mic for the price, and better than the mic in the headset. But if you really want a headset with good sound Sennheisers are the way to go.
