Is it worth buying a gaming laptop?

So I have a ps3 that can play some of the games I want, like Skyrim. However, I would like to do some modding, so I would need a computer for that. I currently have an Acer Chromebook (it has a lot of things that I personally don't like/causes issues) and it cannot handle gaming of any sort.
With all that in mind, is it worth it to buy a "gaming laptop", which I would also use for other things but specifically gaming, when I already have a ps3 and a somewhat okay laptop? I also wouldn't be buying the most expensive "best" gaming laptop because of budget issues, unless it's on sale black friday/cyber monday. So is it worth it to risk buying a possibly sub-par gaming laptop?

Or, if I do happen to save up a little longer, would buying a more expensive gaming laptop be more worth it?

In a word, No, not unless it is your only option.
Compare the speed and power of a desktop i5 with a laptop i5.
If you don't have a desk, connect a desktop to your TV and use a wireless keyboard
