Or anything from there with the same CPU. I would look for something with a dedicated GPU though

The CPU would likely be fine for most users/uses. I, too, would recommend a system with a dedicated GPU for heavier work. Look at the Precision Mobile Workstation class of laptops for more capable (and expensive) options.

I've got a price range to work with now (£500), what about the Asus VivoBook's 7100U?

Rig looks okay. Asus generally builds good stuff. Still uses integrated graphics, but that is all that can be bought at that price point.
