Is there anything I can do to help make my notebook faster?

I just bought:
2016 ASUS VivoBook Flagship Model 15.6" Laptop - Intel Pentium N3700 Quad core (2M Cache, up to 2.4 GHz), 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD 5400 RPM, SuperMulti DVD/
It is slow but I think because of alllllll the windows updates. Came w Mcafee. Any suggestions other than using another antivirus?

This is a pretty low end laptop. So it's a little limited to improve the performance. First, replace the HDD with a SSD. The laptop will boot up faster, programs will load a little faster and feel a little snappier. Second, add another 4GB of RAM. I'm not sure if this is possible or not, because you didn't provide the exact model number.

For all that work and updating, and it is that new, you might as well just return it and get a better one.
