Actually the power supply isn't better. It's using the Seasonic GB platform, which is the same as the Seasonic S12ii. The CX450M has better overall electrical performance and includes modularity for easier/ cleaner cable management.

Hardly any games use over 8gb of ram. No reason to start with 16gb for gaming...

Hardly any games use over 8gb of ram. No reason to start with 16gb for gaming, especially at this budget. OP, start with 8gb and if you need more in the future you can add more.

The Fractal Design Edison M is better than both the XFX TS 550w and Corsair CX450m. It is based on the Seasonic G platform which is known to be fairly good.

I suggest trying to fit an SSD into this build for quick boot times an fast load times for a couple games/programs.

according to Tom's PSU tier list, the XFX is tier 2 while the Corsair CXM is tier 4 and to be avoided. 16gb of ram is the recommended for most current games.

Going off by a tier list means you have no knowledge what makes a psu good, and read zero relative professional reviews. Toms tier list is full of flaws. It isn't even accounting for the new CXM units which is far better quality than the old ones. here is a review showing the Corsair CX650m performing better than the xfx ts 550w bronze and similar quality besides the secondary caps and fan which the CXM's warranty makes up for.

Recommended by who? You've provided no evidence 16gb worth it over 8gb. Watch benchmarks yourself, most games will use less than 8gb of ram.

I find Tom's guides as well as reviews to be reliable as I don't have the time nor inclination to test multiple types of computer hardware. I base my opinion on personal experience with system building. Obviously there are many other sites which provide useful tech information. I do find your response to a bit boorish.

You obviously haven't read reviews otherwise you would understand the performance of the Corsair CX450M. Opinions aren't really valuable here when solid facts can already been found from proffesional reviews. I think this is settled, either of the two units are fine, though not one is far better than the other. The CXM though is slightly ahead. There's still the edison m wich is superior at that price range.

OP, if you have no more questions, I'm out. Good luck building.
