[citation][nom]ericburnby[/nom]Mentioning you in the same breath as an idiot would be insulting the idiot.I suppose you think Jobs influence in the world of computers only goes back as far as the iPod. Clearly you know nothing about the history of Apple or personal computing in general.[/citation]

LOL "Sent from my iPhone"??

The technology and ideas behind the personal computer were developed by researchers in academia and corporations such as IBM and Xerox. Apple and Steve Jobs contributed nothing to it. You can give them credit for helping popularize the personal computer as we know it early on, but that's as far as Steve's contribution extends. I'm not claiming that Steve Jobs is not an important person and doesn't deserve a biography - he is after all a brilliant CEO and marketer who created an extremely successful company. It's the comparison to Einsten that irked me. Jobs was the first to realize commercial potential in a mouse - wow, he certainly changed the world, hasn't he! Does Steve Jobs possess any scientific background? Has he ever published a scientific article? Comparing Steve Jobs to some of the greatest minds of the 20th century who made modern life possible is absurd.

[citation][nom]ericburnby[/nom]It's true Apple did get the idea from a tour of PARC. The facts that get left out are that Xerox received $1,000,000 (100,000 shares at $10 each) of IPO stock in exchange for allowing Steve and other Apple staff members to tour PARC for three days to get ideas.Xerox was compensated, so there's no theft. [/citation]

You've just proven my point. How can Jobs be called an innovator when he effectively bought his way into the industry? You can purchase an idea (in the form of a patent, for instance), but that won't make it your own.

Proved your point? I wasn't arguing that Jobs was an innovator in talking about PARC. I was simply correcting the idiots who say he "stole" from Xerox when clearly Xerox was compensated.

And you don't need to be an inventor to be an innovator. Almost all devices or machines made today use ideas (building blocks) invented by someone else. Innovators can see potential in something and run with it.

Next time Ferrari builds a new engine I suppose you're going to say they copied Otto.

@ericburnby

and in the same breath i guess you need to give props to the guy who came up with the idea of spaming........
