I'm imaging it's use in a sexual nature.

Sending enough sonic waves so you can feel a sensation...
Enough so that if applied to the correct area of the body, enough stimulation would be provided for a surprise?

Why is it when these words two words are used in conjucntion: "Touchable Hologram", ....9 out of 10 people here (including me) think iPORN...err I mean..."PORN"?

[citation][nom]lordfakie[/nom]I Inmediately though of having sex with a hollogram program after just reading the title. It's.. that wrong?.., Am I bad peson?, do I I need help?[/citation]

nah... u aren't a bad person. You are just another victim(like most of us) of the entarteinment industry who would love to drive all of us into sex maniacs as long as we are paying BIG BUCK$ for it.

And it seems they are succeeding in it considering that most of the readers's(including me) first idea, how to use this interesting new technology, was to use it for porn and sex.

THis ain't how it should be, should it?
:(

Wonder if this tech could be used to create a kind of artifical gravity in space. I mean, since they can create pressure mid-air. It might actually work without killing you, unlike that magnetic stuff in the flying mice article the other day.

so what are you saying? that we can use this technology for.. not porn?

I don't understand why 9 out of 10 people's first thought is porn. I mean is this site's audience comprised of mostly nerds who don't have a real sex life.....oh wait.

Seriously though, my first thought was interactive games and military training among other implications. Think about virtual surgery where a doctor can remotely diagnose and perform surgery while feeling every nuance of what he is doing inside the human body. All kinds of virtual training could use this technology (the ultrasonic 'touch' and maybe not the hologram) to make for a better lesson in whatever the student is learning.

I was actually thinking of military uses as well. If they can project an image, say, in front of a Humvee that can provide this pressure they are talking about, then perhaps roadside IED's would explode before the actual vehicle is in front of them. Or, if they could project images around other military vehicles that would cause incoming missiles to explode before they hit their targets, then perhaps it could save lives.

Even in the space program. If they could place some kind of cone shaped image around the space station or satellites, then perhaps some of the small particles will deflect from a collision course.

Who knows, maybe this could be the start of the "deflector shields" that are so popular in science fiction.

Just a thought.

That is a great idea for Humvees... except it wouldn't work for when someone has the IED strapped to him and knows when to blow it (happened to a good friend of mine as they were driving through a marketplace...) Also, to create the pressure in space the device would need particles (such as air) to transfer the kinetic energy (which space does not have enough of).

I remember an experiment though involving light. The scientists wanted to show that light has characteristics of a particle (is light a particle or a wave? Experiments have been done to support both theories). They used a laser and put it under water which was treated with a 'soap' to decrease the waters surface tension. The laser pushed molecules of water out like a geyser. I wasn't trying to make any kind of point, I just wanted to share something I learned. Maybe they could incorporate different techniques to get a light shield? :p

hmm.... MS should buy into this idea..

Touchable Hologram should fit well with the upcoming Natal...

So instead of just waving our hands ... now we can feel the "thing" while we are moving it around...

@ andesdfhdfddh

True. The guy who use laser to trap/slow down/stop particles for studying chemical reactions got his Nobel price in chemistry @ 1986.

Well... if you want to FEEL something, theres always REAL DOLL. Checked them out when I thought about this reply (really).

Now, they have cartoon-type dolls (big eyes) and odd/different body types. Some with G-Cup breasts... short, tall, thin, big... bigger.

So... for $6000~7000, you can order your Girlfriend that doesn't age, won't complain, and doesn't drain your wallet.

The Japanese sex dolls have movements... but not Real Doll's realism... but some day, they'll have realistic movement, facial expressions, feel, etc...

And it'll be food for the environment. Less births... because the Earth has more than enough humans.

Also, can be fun to take to parties.

OMG to the link, that was funny and sad at the same time.

When I watch something like this then Tool's Aemima comes to mind. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wnk78TTj8to). The good news is these people are more than likely not going to have offspring and hence will not pass along there genes :).
