My jbl 4 cut offs the sound like hanging in between and then gets fine. It is been done a couple of times

maybe the audio source is too far away from the box, bluetooth can be destracted by the environment as well

But the audio source is in the same room and that to near the Bluetooth device then also it is happening

Try a different audio source. If it happens there too, I would RMA the JBL box (if it is still under warranty.)
