Keeping laptop in truck

I'll be leaving my backpack in my truck when I go to work. Will the heat during the summer do any damage to it?

One would hope you would slide it under the seat or....behind, or something, to be less tempting to thieves.
Severe rapid temp changes would hurt it more than just getting to 120 ish F or whatever during the day in the truck.
For example going from the hot truck to a cold air conditioned environment would possibly cause condensation.

Since a lot of laptop operating temps for laptops seem to be 80 C plus, I can't see the truck getting that hot, so it shouldn't hurt it especially.
Moisture from whatever source might be more of a concern. ( rainy days, etc.)

Depending on where you are, temperatures can skyrocket in a truck / car. People had pets that died in their vehicles when they go someplace like Walmart to go shopping and leave them in the car with the windows up.

I think I read somewhere that temps can get as high as 130 - 140 degrees. Under those conditions I would only reluctantly leave laptops that have been MIL-SPEC tested inside a sealed vehicle. MIL-SPEC means military tested to be durable enough to operate in extreme environments including deserts. The ThinkPad T series is an example of a MIL-SPEC tested laptop.


If you cannot take the laptop with you and it must be left in the truck then I recommend you look for a solar powered fan that is installed in the window to keep parked vehicles cool even in direct sunlight. Here's an example:

While the most of the electronics in a laptop are designed to operate in very hot conditions 50c - 99c. Not everything is designed for such temps. The LCD screen is an example.
