The Kickstarter drive is expected to offer Oculus RIFT backers the promise of a kit version for around $500 USD. This kit will be targeted for enthusiasts and developers, and not for the general consumer. Carmack said last month that Doom 3 BFG Edition with the added HMD would sell for around the same price in limited quantities, and he is hoping to have a large number of kits available by the time QuakeCon arrives in August.

Umm I don't want to pay $500 for a game even if it supports these awesome VR goggles.

HMD=Head Mounted Display. IE- basically offering the game for free if its going to be the same price as the display itself.

Why doom... there are so many beter titles... Mirrors Edge, Silent Hill, Amnesia, Portal, AC.
these games will really bring the WOW factor to this technology... not doom...

Because Carmack works for iD Software.

Personally I'm looking forward to this stuff. I may not buy in at the 500$ level, but if it comes down to 200$-300$ I'm going to get in trouble if it has decent software support in games.

Mirrors Edge, would be good, but he didnt make it
Silent Hill, the good ones are all about atmosphere, and being first person kills it, the game would have to be desighned around the goggles for it to work
Amnesia, from what i see, haven't gotten around to playing it yet, the game relies on falling, and taking you out of control allot, would not be the best game to go full vr with
Portal, well... a great game for it, but again he didnt make it, but with valve, and if these get popular, well... i could see them working on a patch for it. that said... this game would make you sick, its not a might, it WILL.

doom, is a fps, thats all about atsmosphere to scare you, and was first person... this is actually a REALLY good game to start off with.

For me, it's really about where this might be in 3 years when it might get down to a reasonable price threshold. That said, I'm pretty excited about the potential future.

I can definitely see Team Ninja hoping to support this in their next title: DOA Extreme Pole Dancing or something along those lines.

consider the head set as a tv, an investment for all games, and not just a novelty for one... im hopeing this happens sooner than later... i really wanted a headset to be decent sense about 10 years ago.

640x800? what a joke... I'd rather have Sony's 3D glasses with two 1280x720 OLED screens. Sure it doesn't have the gyros and stuff but all Sony needs to do is update the model with that and it will blow away this little toy.

It should be a crime to make such low res in such expensive 3D glasses...
