Labtop Won’t connect to TV HDMI

I have a dell XPS and had to to reinstall windows 7 after replacing hard drive and now it won’t connect to my tv by using the HDMI connection.

Made sure the HDMI port on the TV is for input (HDMI in) not output (HDMI out)?
