Laptop black screen

My Dell laptop goes to a black screen after it loads. I have reset, removed battery, and done diagnostics. Everything passed on diagnostics except I got a fail on the DST Short Test. How can I fix this easily? I am on vacation so I don't have access to my usual repair shop.

If it's OK until Windows takes over, the brightness might have been accidentally turned right down. Try the Function key with the sun icon - usually next to the half moon icon - and if that doesn't do the trick, try it again while also holding down the Fn key to the left of your spacebar.

Try to start in safe mode. If that works roll back display adapter drivers.

I tried both, and my black screen remains after the Windows symbol goes away.

It also won't allow me to access safe mode.

I'm wondering if the resolution has somehow gone out of the range the screen can handle. Can you connect it to another monitor and press the relevant Function key to divert the display to that screen?

I am able to see the cursor arrow, so I know the screen is fine.
