Laptop BlackScreen! Could Barely See the Screen

Hi all,
Couple of days ago my laptop's screen turned black while it was on, I then turned it off and turned it back on, and I waited for a bit and I heard the windows sound when it logs in, then I assumed it must be the screen's fault and not the CPU or something.

I turned all the lights off in my room when I tested it, and flashed my phones flash towards it and I saw the background picture, only barely.

So is there anyone out there that could tell me what's wrong with it? And what I need to do to repair it.

I think it might be the inverter or the back-light, but I'm no technician. Also for the 6 months the screen sometimes it flickered, and the brightness was not as before, meaning it was darker.

Any response is appreciated.

Hi, thanks for the reply, so would you say it's definitely the inverter? it's the Dell insprion 1720, quite old, I don't want to invest a lot of money if it's not worth it. Thanks again!

No, I'm not sure that the inverter is the problem, if the backlight has already flickered before, the backlight may be defective.
