Laptop Charging Issue

Laptop: Lenovo Y580.

To start off, my laptop will not detect the ac adapter when it is on and the battery is in, in these situations i would plug in the charger and the computer will not have a popup message or anything.

The only way that I can get the laptop to charge is to turn off my laptop, take out the battery, hold down the power button to release the remaining charge, plug in the AC adapter, in these cases the laptop will turn on fine, and then I just have to slap the battery in while the laptop is on.

It seems like both the battery and the charger are working fine, since the battery can still be charged and work properly, and the AC adapter can still power up the laptop normally.

Therefore, what seem to be the problem here? I will greatly appreciate any help. Thank you!
