Laptop computer soundcards?

I am in the process of building a small home recording studio and plan on using my laptop as my device. But from what I understand you need a sound card for this type of stuff. My computer is a HP ENVY 15t Quad TouchSmart, and it just says it has a mic/headphone dual jack. does that mena my computer has a sound card or do I need an external sound card such as a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD USB Audio System with THX SB1240?

replacing laptop internal soundcards are tough, as everything is locked tight, and hard to replace. My suggestion is either an external sound card, or a DAC. this converts the sound from the inner card through the machine and makes it better. DAC is digital analog converter, and are cheap. look up FIIO. they make the best ones, or apogee.

So would you not recommend the creative sound blaster? For someone on a budget what FIIO DAC would you recommend?

I recommend the creative sound blaster, or a FIIO E9. Its older but still good. If you want to splash out a little more then the E17. Try either, but personally go for the DAC.
