I am a highschool student and im looking for a laptop. I game a little on the side also. So i am looking for a laptop than can play games somewhat well and also be able to have a good battery life when im typing papers and researching. My budget is 800-1000 for im looking for something that will last me awhile.thanks for the help

Macbook Air? Unless you can find a MacBook Pro retina for cheap. The price is too high (~1500) new. I would however, ask the apple store about student discounts. Macs have the best reliability and battery life on the market, coupled with power and performance. I use a MacBook Pro retina, and can run games using the HD 4000, but the Iris graphics on the new ones is better.

I am not a fan of the macs for i have tried them out and my siblings have them too and on top the price for a new one is little out of of my range

The battery life for asus has me a little worried though for it barely last 4 hours after most of the reviews i have read on their laptops

I don't know. I find the Windows laptop scene to be a "replace it every 3 years" deal, or "repair it every three months". I use a Windows desktop, and frankly, having built several, I find Windows to be the most glitch prone OS I have EVER used (Windows 8 esp). It has problems every other day, and that is with Windows 7 Ultimate and a brand new HDD. I have re-installed the OS at least 3 times by now. I also like the all metal construction. But, If it is windows, Google best laptops 2014.

SIDE NOTE: I have seen people (classmates) throw their Mac laptops down the stairs, and power them up afterwards. I have never see a display crack completely, and the OS has a simple function to fix permission errors while running.

Also with macs the selection of gaming and the lack of microsoft word is the huge turn off for me

There is word for mac, I use it. Also, you can easily install windows on a mac, and remove the mac os. I have done it myself several times, works great.
