Dear all,
I wish to buy a laptop mainly for learning Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, 3ds Max, & similar graphics programs. My budget is 35000-40000 INR [$700-$800 US]
Would the Dell Inspiron 15 specs below be good enough?
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T6400 (2GHz/ 800 FSB/ 2MB Cache)
Memory 2GB Dual-channel 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Video Card Integrated Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Hard Drive 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Windows Vista(R) Home Basic SP1 Edition 32 bit (English)
15.6 " 720p WXGA (1366x768) Display with TrueLife(TM)
I'll be purchasing the laptop in India.
From what I've read so far, it seems that -
1. 2d programs will run fine on the above specs. However, the viewports in 3ds max will require a good GPU. [I don't intend on doing any rendering on the laptop - Its best left to a desktop]
2. Again, the level of GPU required would depend much on the complexity of the models. So I tried out a few car models in 3ds max on my current desktop which has an integrated Ati Radeon Xpress 200, & found that there was no lag. I won't really be working on any complex interior/architecture scenes anyway - chiefly game character modeling.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Would you'll suggest any changes in the above config? Or any alternatives?
I would like to multitask, if possible. Gaming is not a priority.
It's difficult to get a better dedicated GPU here within the budget. Maybe, an Nvidia 9200/9300m gs can be squeezed in - but is it any better?
How much of a difference would a 1066mhz fsb make vs a 800mhz fsb? For eg., Should I be spending a bit more for a p7350 rather than a T6400?
The specs of the desktop on which I’ve tried out a few 3ds Max models are -
Intel P4 3.06ghz processor, 512mb ram, Ati Radeon Xpress 200 graphics & chipset.
I've tried a model of a railway station with-
Polys:225198
Verts:40092
Faces:65633
& faced no lag.
So please advise. Maybe I’m looking for a laptop with similar specs [i.e. what would today correspond to] as my desktop? Thanks.
