Laptop for software engineer student

Hi guys I will be going to college in a few months to study software engineering and I would like some recommendations on laptops. My budget is 1000 dollars and I have been looking at gaming laptops and ultrabooks like the razer blade stealth. I don't care about graphics and would like a decent battery life.
