Okay, to start with, let me just say that two days ago my laptop was working fine. I have been using it for five years with no issues, other than having to replace CPU fan and battery.
Yesterday, while I was at work I was having an issue where if I was on wifi and tried to load EVE Online, it would kill my wifi connection. The light would still be blue, but the icon in the bottom corner showed no connection, and my phone would beep saying that the device had disconnected. I could not click on the icon, it would not do anything. It also would not change anything if I pressed the wifi antenna button. I eventually restarted the computer and my wifi antenna finally showed red. Pressing it made it blue again, and I could get back on wifi. I loaded EVE Online again, and it died, doing the same thing as before. This is odd because I have never had issues with EVE Online and play it several hours a day on my laptop tethered to my phone. It just seemed that yesterday it wanted to start being a pain. I restarted the computer again, reconnected to wifi, and this time did not start EVE. I browsed ESPN for over an hour, no issues. I finally tried loading EVE again, and it died nearly instantly.
At this point I decide to do normal virus check and such, don't find anything using AVG Pro or Spybot S&D. I try once more to load EVE and have the same thing happen.
Now I decide to setup USB tethering. Once it is setup, I load EVE, it is working. Play for 20 minutes, then try to get on TeamSpeak, and the whole computer locks up. I let it sit there for another 20 minutes, and it never does anything. I restart the computer, try again. I can use TeamSpeak, or EVE, but not both. Weird. After third time of locking up, I restart, and the computer freezes on bootup. Let it sit a good 15 minutes, then powercycle it. I have a black screen with some backlighting and a white cursor at the top, but it doesn't do anything. I reboot again, and the monitor never even tries to come on this time. I wait, it does nothing. I powercycle again and get a message asking if I want to repair windows. I say yes. It gives me option after a few minutes to do a system restore, which I do. It eventually lets me back on, but still having same issues with wifi shutting off and not being able to turn it back on, and then freezing if I run EVE and TS while connected via USB (I can't run EVE while connected to wifi at all). At this point I decide that my laptop is going to be a backdrop for shooting range, however my mom calls at that point and manages to convince me otherwise. She says she has good negotiation skills and bought the laptop another day. I ended up just surfing the web for a bit, rather than play EVE.
Later that night, I am home and turn on the laptop. Plug my USB in so I can play EVE and it goes smoothly. At one point I decided to get on TeamSpeak, and it worked. So now the laptop decides it will cooperate. Wow. I am on most of the night, end up getting 3 hours of sleep. Come into work and try to get on, and I'll be damned if it isn't doing the same thing. I try everything again, including system restore. Nothing works. I give up, figure I will try later when I get home. Well, tonight when I get home, I try to login, and it is doing the same thing. I cannot play EVE over wifi, and I cannot do EVE and TS while USB tethered.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, otherwise I fear that after work tomorrow I will be taking my laptop to the gun range and seeing what happens when you unload .38 rounds into a paper target while using a Compaq Presario as a backstop.
