I have ahd my laptop for about 2 years. It's an ok laptop but it's pretty special to me because my grandpa gave it to me 2 weeks before he passed away. It's a Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5303. I dropped it couple of times but when I brought it to a tech center to have my hard drive checked they said nothing was wrong with the hard drive. They said I would have to get the full check to figure out what's wrong with it. That costs $89 and I want to know if it's worth it to get it fixed there or if anyone can help me here. When I turn it on the light that shows it's charging turns on and when I click the power button it starts turning on for a second and then it just shows a black screen. I don't care if I can't use windows again. I was going to install Ubuntu on it, because I hate windows 8, anyway. This isn't that urgent but I will be going on vacation in 2 days and I was hoping that I could have this laptop ready by then.

Then it's something internal on the motherboard or one of the connections to it. If the warranty is long gone and if you have any basic hardware skills you may as well open it up and make sure everything is connected properly.
