I did some searching and could not find any instances of a similar issue.
I leave my laptop on pretty much all the time. It's about 2-3 years old and the battery cannot hold more than a 25-30 min charge. It's a dell insipron 1545. I keep getting a notification about how my 'battery is reaching the end of its usable lifespan, etc', so yeah, i guess you should consider it dead.
Ok.
So I wake up this morning and look at the laptop (idle overnight) and it's at that screen as it if had just started up and doin its checks (blank black sreen with white text, looks like DOS, i dont actually know what it is), with an error message saying 'press f1 to do this', 'press f2 to do that' or, 'press f3 to do something else'. Basically: 'press this and we can try to 'fix' your hd/boot sector.'
Ok, tried em all and no go, none of those options worked.
So I shut my baby down and attempt to start her up. Loads up the DELL splash screen and then an audible 'click' comes from the laptop and the strange DOS text error message displays.
Ok, so i assume my HDD dead. fc*K. Shut her down.
So I do some research and find nothing really surprising so i try to figure it out myself. First thing i do is remove the dead battery and start her up on the AC adapter only.
Wierdly the damn laptop boots up fine, albiet a little slow.
I am now backing up my precious files for fear of loss.
Ok does anyone know wtf is going on with my laptop?
