Laptop help Please

My lapop screen go cracked and I gave it to someone to fix it. They are waiting until they come across another screen for it. My daughter gave me her laptop since we got her another one this last Christmas. The one she gave me is very slow and sometimes I can't even use it. I would like to erase everything and start over. How do I do that?? Please help!!
