Hey everyone!
I'm looking at finding a laptop for college, mainly for work but also multimedia and light gaming.
1. What is your budget?
Under $1000, under $1200 with a 3 year warranty included.
2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
15" and 16" is best, ok with 14" or 17"
3. What screen resolution do you want?
At least 1368x768, but larger is better
4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Both.
5. How much battery life do you need?
3+ hours at minimum, 4+ is better.
6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Yes, stuff like Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3, Oblivion; I'm ok with low resolution and low/medium settings with a 20 FPS count. Cards from 310M and greater are fine.
7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo / Video editing, watching movies, Etc.)
Watching movies, maybe some AutoCAD
8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
320GB minimum, 500+ is better.
9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
Amazon, TigerDirect, Newegg, any other reputable sites. I would like Amazon because of the lack of taxes, free shipping, and the cheap and good Squaretrade warranties.
10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
4 years at least.
11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
DVD-ROM/Writer at least, however, a Blu Ray drive would be good. If no BD drive, the price should be under $900.
12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
I don't like Apple for the price/spec ratio and the OS.
13. What country do you live in?
US
14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
HDMI port is a must
I would prefer a 330M or 5650 or greater, but I can live with a 310M
SSD is not necessary at all.
Thanks for any ideas and if anyone knows when we will see a new wave of updated laptops, that would be great. I just need to have it by the end of July or so. Thanks!
