Laptop not working

so when i press the power button on my laptop itll show that the power is on but nothing starts. the screen stays black none of the buttons work other than the power button and the disk tray. I hear the fans go for a second then they completely stop . I tried the whole power drain thing took out the battery held the power button and plugged in the charger still nothing. please help

In old laptops, sometimes this happens due to the discharged or faulty CMOS battery, or due to culprit RAM or its slot. You can try opening the laptop, taking the CMOS battery out, and then starting the laptop without battery (the BIOS will lose any saved information including the system time).

If the issue persists, you can pull the RAM sticks(s) out and try them one-by-one on each slot. (Use compressed air to wipe off all the dust from slots if needed.)

You can also try shorting the jumpers of the motherboard (if applicable).
