Laptop performing worse than it should do?

I bought a gaming laptop recently and it's been performing worse than it should be for the specs it has. I have to turn The Witcher 3 to lowest graphics to get around 30 fps. I was wondering if anyone could help me with figuring out why?
Specs:
Operating system: Windows 8.1
Model: ASUS N56JN
Processor: Intel i7-4700HQ 2.40GHz (8 CPUs)
Memory: 8GB RAM
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 840M 4gb vram
(Also have an intergrated Intel HD Graphics 4600, maybe that could be causing the problem?)

Have you made sure that all drivers are updated on the laptop?

Seems ok to me. 840m is a mid-range (i'd say low) GPU, hence low performance.

what resolution are you playing at, you could be on a 1440p laptop and using native resolution for your games
