Laptop powers off before start up

My laptop has been working fine and suddenly it powers off after the Samsung/intel screen. It says please wait at the bottom for a few seconds and then powers off. I cannot even reach the part where you press to get into bios.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

AC adapter not charging the battery perhaps, might test the AC output...

I tested it with a full battery, with just the lead, with both, with neither. I held the power button down for 1 minute and it was the same. I even removed the HDD to see if that made a difference but it did the same thing.

Sounds like something in the POST procedure is failing. Is it still under warranty?
