Laptop question - Help

Hello there, I'm going to buy brand new Laptop from the store without any operating system (Windows). What will happen if I start the Laptop?

I'm guessing that it will load the BIOS(Basic Input Output System). Although a computer without an operation system is pretty useless as far as I know.
