Laptop rant mode ON

Boyfriend of a friend of mine bought her a new laptop. Toshiba Satellite, ~$350. She asked me to look it over.
AMD CPU, 4GB RAM, blah, blah.

Holee Crap!

Almost unusable OOTB, due to all the preinstalled crapware. Norton, some PC PRO Registry cleaner thing, random BS games sending data to who knows where, etc, etc.

Turn it on, and 30 minutes later, HDD use is still pegged at 95-100%, due to all the scans.

Create Toshiba recovery media (just in case)...wipe, reinstall with a clean OS.

you could just get an oem copy of windows and do a clean load, then get drivers from Toshiba, that's what I did with an acer laptop, no crap ware and everything is good

Yes, that is what I am in the process of doing. But for people who are a little less clueful...they will be presented with an almost unusable device.
