Buying a New Laptop Form
1. What is your budget?
$1000 - $1200
2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
14-16 inch is fine, thickness does not matter too much, but not too thick is preferred (< 3cm?)
3. What screen resolution do you want?
at least 1366x768
4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Mainly using at home on a desk, but need to take outside frequently.
5. How much battery life do you need?
Not much. Go for performance.
6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
I'm content with Nvidia GeForce 930m or similar
7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Programming.
Here's what I generally run:
1-2 instances of IntellijIDEA (Pycharm, Webstorm, etc), each taking up ~1GB of ram.
20-40 tabs of chrome (~1-2GB ram, i know its wasteful, sue me)
webpack and node-sass on watch, a local mysql, postgres, and mongodb server (~500mb total)
lots of command prompts
2-3 local flask servers (200-300Mb per server)
If i'm doing data related work, I may hold some 2 million SQL rows with 10+ columns in a python pandas dataframe in memory.
I used to have a habit of gaming, though I don't do that anymore, but even if I do go back it would probably only be relatively low end games running on medium/low spec. As I've said, Geforce 930M or maybe slightly higher (930MX?) is enough (it's what I currently use).
Oh and I also want to put Ubuntu on it. so DOS is preferable.
8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
I currently use ~250 GB out of my 1TB HDD (Sata, i think). 70gb consists of my content, 180 is program files and os files

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
Almost never use dvds, just the standard is enough

DOS is preferred because I will install ubuntu.
I would like to try an SSD, so a 512 GB SSD would be nice, though I'm not sure if that would be out of my price range.
I will need at least 8GB of ram, which is what I'm currently using (i'm using ddr3), I'm considering using a 12GB ram because I've processed a million rows in python and my ram usage reached 100% at some points in time.
Please give me several recommendations, as not all of your recommendations may be available in my country. If my expectations are unrealistic, drop the graphics card first, then raise the price.
