Laptop Recommendations for University

So I've been looking at several types of laptops for University (gaming, ultrabooks, macs, etc) and I would like to hear what people recommend as a good all round laptop (around ~$1000ish CAD).

A few of my current choices include:
Dell XPS 13 1080p Touch ($1150)

I'll mostly be doing everyday tasks on the laptop and maybe do some occasional gaming, etc. I have a secondary computer at home mainly for gaming as well.
Any feedback on laptop suggestions or information regarding my current laptop choices are appreciated.

a mac? good luck if it stops working. if they cant fix its error code, youre gonna be left without it for a long time whilst they try fixing it in a workshop somewhere.

whereas a windows laptop stops working, you can more or less walk into any computer shop and they can 'supposedly' fix things on the spot or within a day.

note i dont mention anything about performance, which is better etc (though i do hate macs) this is because the only thing that matters when sht hits the fan: do you want to be left without a laptop for 1 day or 1 week?

Alright, with macs out of the question then, what type of laptop would you recommend? Or would you recommend one of my current choices?

the vivo is a much better deal, you get more storage which is important, and it has a separate HDD (boots from a m.2 ssd) which means if sht hits the fan, all the stuff on the hdd can be easily recovered by plugging it straight into a cage (a 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch hard drive adapter).
