Laptop speaker volume control

Hello. My speaker level is stuck on 0, and nothing I have tried works on this problem. Can anybody help me?

Did you read your manual?
Is the volume in the application software turned up?
Do you have the sound muted?

I don't know where the manual is. The laptop is hp g60. The sound is not "muted", but is at level 0. The little speaker icon in the lower right tray has a red circle with a white x inside. ???
