Laptop starts for some time then turns off.

Hello, I bought used hp nc4400 notebook in running condition, back at home i started it and tried to charge battery but couldn't. it was running only when plugging in charger. i got charger of some other model with rating 19.5 v instead of 19 v and it started charging the battery. after battery was 80% charged it was shut down by itself. after that if it is started it starts and after few seconds restarts by itself, then turns off. if i try to start it again, power led goes on, hard disk led goes on, fan goes on but it shuts down before some display on screen. if i try after a rest of an hour or so same scene repeats. please help

Take the battery out and plug the power lead in, does it still run?

Where did you get this other PSU from? did you check the laptop's voltage rating?

Unfortunately i didn't, i got this from my friend who had hp 1000. this charger have rating of 19.5 volts but original had 19 v written on it.
