Laptop think vantage ccannot boot. blank/black screen...help

My Lenovo Think Vantage..IBM Think pad does not boot..is sounds "alive" but screen renains black/blank help
 
Solution
Hook up an external monitor, mouse and keyboard. Turn on the system and close the lid right after you turn it on. If you don't get an image on the external screen, your video card is bad, if you get an image there then the screen needs to be checked, maybe lose connection, could be a bad backlight or LCD panel. If it's an IBM ThinkPad that is an older system so likely the backlight needs to be replaced.
