Laptop to TV

Just purchased new laptop and when i connect it to my tv the image of the desktop is a small square within my tv screen and i cannot seem to get it to fill the screen properly using the screen resolution settings. Tried everything.

Oh thank you so much for your help. I just bought it today and its an Acer Aspire 8gb 1TB. It's strange because the old crappy Toshiba laptop that I have been using was fine and the desktop filled the screen on the tv but for some reason whatever i try with the new laptop settings i cannot get it to work. I just have a small picture of the desktop in the middle of my 50 inch tv screen which is no good ! I just googled GPU and it mentions Radeon which i don't have on this laptop.

Is your IGPU intel then? If so, I should be able to easily find a guide for you to follow.

I am not sure what that is haha but it sounds good ! I'm afraid to say I have limited tech knowledge so am trying hard to understand all this stuff. This is the description of my new laptop -
Processor: Dual-core Intel Celeron N2840 (2.16 - 2.58 GHz , 1 MB cache)
Memory: 8 GB DDR3L 1600 MHz
Video Card: Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail)
Hard Drive: 1 TB SATA 5400 rpm
Display: 15,6 "(39.62cm ) HD (1366x768)

Look at the TV website, sometimes they got the proper driver for your video card.
