Laptop Touchpad Issue

Gateway P-6831-FX running Windows 7 (x86)

When I boot up my laptop for the fist time, once my Windows login screen appears, my cursor is in the middle of the screen and the touchpad is unresponsive. I can use the keyboard to restart and when I do the touchscreen will work. It does this all the time. Any ideas?

Have you a driver installed for the touchpad -- see Gateway site for download. Otherwise plug in a mouse -- preferable any day.

Uninstall and re-install the mouse.

The Windows 7 Synaptics driver is installed. Still have the same issue, not responsive on initial boot. Restart and everything works fine. I mainly use my laptop in the living room on a tv tray, so using an external mouse will not be suffice.
