I purchased an acer aspire v3-575-50td (i5 6200u, 4 gb ram, 500gb hdd). I am planning on upgrading to a 120gb solid state drive and 16gb of ram. I will soon be engineering student and want a fast and capable laptop that will last for a while. I figured purchasing this laptop for $400 was a decent deal. I do not install many programs and have very few files, so 120gb should be plenty for me, especially with usb drives and cloud storage options available. I am looking at this ssd: https://jet.com/product/SanDisk-SanDisk-SSD-PLUS-120GB/1340776713af4a38b90aef5790bf8ea4
and this ram: https://jet.com/product/Kingston-HX316LS9IBK216-Memory-HX316LS9IBK216-HX-16GB-DDR3L-1600-2x8GB-IMP-Black/018d08183a0f444691e02f95455ca1e8
I have the other hardware needed to clone the drive and should be able to figure it out using some online instructions. My question is largely regarding the ssd. I have a reasonable knowledge of computers, but have no experience with solid state drives. For those who have a lot of experience with a few different drives, which 120gb drive would you recommend? Also, would the upgrades I am looking at be a noticeable improvement for the money? Together I can get them on jet.com for less than $100.

As an engineering student, what programs will you need to install? If you are looking to ensure that the laptop will last for awhile, you will need to plan for the future. For about $20 more, you can get a SSD with twice the storage, which would be well worth it. That will give you room to store movies, documents, pictures, as well as any programs that you may need for school.
