Greetings, jaged:

The ASUS ROG and the Lenovo that you linked are great machines, although the ASUS skimps on storage type (no SSD).

You might also consider this Lenovo rival (at $850, it's clearly a Black Friday special):

Compared to the Lenovo from Newegg the difference is touch-screen, half the amount of RAM, and only 128GBs of SSD storage, but for $600 less. Given your budget that's at least $500 you can use on...

just had a closer look at your suggested replacement to my original thoughts....that's best buy USA. I'm in Canada. I tried looking for that part on the canadian site and it doesnt even come up. Ah well, thought it was too good to be true at $850.

Glad to see my original suggestions were quality though. They appeared to be to me but i wanted a second opinion.

You don't think i should look for one with a new 10 series GPU? that'd put the cost up even higher though for sure.

Hello, jaged:

Sorry about the US/Canada mixup. The Newegg.ca Lenovo is still a great machine - I just added the BestBuy option to 'stir things up'...

A 10-series GTX is definitely going to push you well past USD1,500. Check this link for more details:
http://www.ultrabookreview.com/10939-laptops-nvidia-1070-1080/

I did actually find a USD1,300 GigaByte laptop on Amazon (US) with a 6GB GTX1060, but it said that it could only be shipped inside 'Continental United States'.

Cheers,
GreyCatz.

This GL502VM seems good. has a 1060 as well. The other laptops I was looking at all had 960/970 GPU so this should be much better.

Might have to took a long look at this one.
