hi guys i m tryin to install windows xp on my hp compaq latop cq56, it is asking me to press the f8 key durin the installation process but my the function key f8 is not working on it, everythin else is e.g esc and other keys are responding properly except the function keys. how can i sort this problem out, is there any other way to do this plz?

Some laptops (and even desktop keyboards) have a key you have to press to get the function keys to behave like function keys, rather than as accessory buttons. On many keyboards, this is called "F-Lock". Hit that, then see if F8 actually sends F8...

The key is known as a Function Key. It is labeled Fn on most systems. Press it, then press F8, or the correct boot key.
