Left computer speaker works fine, but right one, no.

Why should this be? The left is plugged into the right one, and, if I unplug it, I do get sound from the right one, although not as strong as the left.

The jack emanating from the left speaker is a permanent one coming out of that speaker, and the jack from the right speaker into the computer has to be OK if sound is getting through to the left speaker. Also the right speaker works at about 70 percent if the left one is unplugged -- a mystery!
