When I turn on my laptop there's a black screen. The power and the battery lights up but that's about it

Do you ever see a windows or any logo or any text? Is there any beeping? Do you have an external monitor you can hook your laptop up to to see if that works? Need to see if it's your video card, or your lcd display that's the issue.
